What's Going On In The Butte!?

With the unseasonably warm temperatures we've experienced over the past several days, it sure feels a lot like spring! But of course nothing lasts forever. The sunshine and blue skies are giving way to clouds and snow once again, with a chance of the white stuff every day starting tomorrow through President's Day Weekend.

The 2011 Subaru US Freeskiing Championships are taking place now through Saturday at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, a favorite event among locals and visitors alike. Crested Butte was the first ski resort in the US to launch an extreme skiing contest and this year marks the 20th anniversary.

Upcoming events include The Prater Cup which will be celebrating its 40th year at CBMR. This event will bring 200 of Colorado's top 11 and 12 year old racers to Crested Butte starting February 24th through the 28th.

Future events also include 7 Hours of the Banana, an endurance ski event benefiting Adaptive Sports Center and the Crested Butte Ski Club, and the 15th Annual Extreme Telemark Freeskiing Championships.

And of course, let's not forget about Big Air on Elk, taking place Saturday March 12th. Elk Avenue will be transformed into a terrain style kicker for skiers and boarders to show off their tricks. This is one local favorite not to be missed.

And already looking towards summer, Crested Butte is going to be one busy little town come June!

The Butte has been chosen to host opening day of Ride The Rockies. This is just one of many events that will be taking place here this summer, including the inaugural Quiznos Pro Challenge cycling race and a new Epic Rocky Mountain Relay, a running relay that finishes in Crested Butte.
